Parliament aims to resolve challenges at Tshwane University of Technology

Higher Education Committee to deal with Tshwane University of Technology issues

The Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training will endeavour to find lasting solutions to the recent challenges at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) during an oversight visit to the institution this morning.

The committee will have a meeting with the TUT Council, the management and other relevant stakeholders to deal with the challenges facing the university, which is the largest contact institution of higher learning in the country.

While the initial agenda included discussing matters such as student enrolment, students’ protest in 2014, NSFAS funding and student housing, the committee has noted that the visit coincides with the student protests which reportedly took place yesterday.

Committee Chairperson Mrs Yvonne Phosa said part of the aims of the oversight visit would be to endeavour to find permanent solutions to challenges that have been recurring at the institution.

The meeting will take place at the TUT Soshanguve campus, starting at 9h00.
