The Portfolio Committee on Basic Education has noted protest action by the education lobby group, Equal Education (EE), outside Parliament.
Committee Chairperson, Ms Nomalungelo Gina, said she had received electronic communication from EE to accept a memorandum outlining their concerns. “Unfortunately, this was not possible as I am currently doing my constituency work, outside of Cape Town, during this recess period of Parliament,” said Ms Gina.
EE has been protesting outside Parliament because of the delayed release of the provincial implementation plans for Norms and Standards for School Infrastructure. Miss Gina assures EE that the concerns raised are issues that the Committee will followup, as part of its oversight functions over the National and Provincial Departments of Basic Education.
