On Saturday, 01 October 2011, at about 08h15, fourteen (14) South African National Defence Force members from 44Parachute Battalion (44Para Bn), were involved in a freak accident during a ‘Mass Parachute Jump’.
Four members were seriously injured and were immediately airlifted to 1Military Hospital, and all four are reportedly stable. Ten members who suffered minor injuries were rushed to 1Military Hospital by two ambulances; all ten members are also reportedly stable.
A Board of Inquiry (BOI) will be convened.
