The well-known Overall Friday Operation has made success towards fighting crime in Nelspruit when police uncovered drugs on Friday, 30 August 2013 in Anderson Street.
The operation which was led by Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe was focusing on drugs as reports revealed that drugs were being sold in that street.
Twenty (20) rock Cocaine, 37 pinches of Heroine, 11 pinches of Nyaope one plastic bag and a matchbox of 33.5 gram of dagga were confiscated during the cordon and search operation.
All South African Police Service units, provincial and Mbombela traffic officers and Film and Publication Board were part of the operation.
The MEC has recently mentioned that Anderson Street is one street that needs an urgent attention from a law enforcement perspective as it poses serious challenges to the maintenance of law and order due to some of the illegal activities reportedly taking place there.
He said that some of the activities taking place at Anderson Street would soon dent the image of the capital city if drastic action was not taken. He complained that the existence of buildings which are no longer conducive for business, attract some young people who later uses the places to conduct illicit activities such as selling drugs and others operate liquor shops that are not properly regulated.
Meanwhile three people were also arrested, one for drunk driving and two for being in possession of counterfeit goods. 135 counterfeit CD’s and 281 counterfeit DVD’s were also confiscated.
MEC Shongwe praised the police saying that such operations immensely contributed to crime fighting initiatives. He said that law breakers should be warned as operations of this nature will be the order of the day.
