North West Public Safety Traffic authorities had by Wednesday slapped over five thousand motorists with traffic fines for speeding violations since the launch of the Arrive Alive Festive Season Campaign.
The Provincial authorities also stopped and weighed 2 847 heavy vehicles of which 441 were found to be weighing in excess of the permissible mass. Two hundred and sixty eight heavy vehicles that were overloaded by less than 5% were warned while 173 were charged and issued with fines in excess of R153 600.
Meanwhile, North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa appeals to taxi drivers not to overload passenger luggage as overloaded trailers are uncontrollable and are the cause of most accidents involving long distance taxis.
