On 7 January 2010 at Bolivia Lodge, Polokwane, when I was supposed to report to the people of Limpopo about the performance of our grade 12 learners, I mentioned that due to circumstances beyond of our control we were unable to do so.
My inability to give a full picture of the performance of our grade 12 learners was as a result of a system blockage which left 9 939 learners not being resulted and 65 schools not resulted at all with a combined enrolment figure of 3 041.
Today, I am happy to announce that all outstanding learners' results are released and 100 percent of our 1 402 examination centres are now resulted. From the 65 examination centres not resulted, 44 of them with a combined enrolment figure of 4 222 were resulted on the very same day I was reporting to the people of Limpopo on 7 January 2010.
The challenges faced by the remaining 21 examination centres with a combined enrolment figure of 5 717 have since been resolved. All our results are now released and we expect all our learners who were affected to receive their results by today to enable them to enrol at the higher institutions of their choice.
Let me further indicate that normal processes of examination irregularities, if any, will run their course. I am mentioning this fact because regardless of whether the results are outstanding or not, you will still have individual learners who have to appear before the irregularities committee for one reason or another.
Finally, I want to take this opportunity once more, to thank our parents, teacher unions, learners and the people of Limpopo in general who showed incredible amount of patience when we explained to them the challenges we faced. A word of thanks also go to you, members of the media, first for coming in your numbers at Bolivia Lodge and secondly for your understanding which find expression in your reporting. Together with the national department, no effort will be spared to ensure that this unfortunate incident does not occur again.
We are convening another ceremony on Friday, 15 January 2010 at Bolivia Lodge 08h00 for 09h00 to honour our schools and learners who made this province proud. We rely on your continued support as always. The schools are reopening on Wednesday, 13 January 2010. A programme to visit schools will be available to you by the latest tomorrow.
I thank you!
