Our officers continue to be slain

“The callous slaying of police officers continue to go unabated,” declared National Police Commissioner, General Riah Phiyega, following the killing of yet another three police officers including two officers this past weekend.

On Wednesday, 15 August 2012 Constable Eianah Rangani was shot and killed in Hillbrow while a colleague continues to fight for his life in hospital.

This past Saturday, 18 August 2012 at about 21h00, two Vereeniging police officers were shot dead by three unknown gunmen in Koraan Street, Solan Park, and Vereeniging. Warrant officer Mongali Thomas Moagi and the constable Pantsi Daniel Tshakela Police were responding to a hijacking in the Vereeniging area when they were shot in cold blood. The suspects brazenly made their getaway in the SAPS vehicle before hijacking another car to flee that scene.

“Despite the continuous onslaught on our members, our officers continue to put their lives in the line of fire to protect the innocent and defenceless of our country”, said General Phiyega.

The National Commissioner has conveyed her deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of these fallen colleagues. She has also asked for these killers to be brought to book.
