Opening of Schools 2013

As part of the re-opening of schools programme, the Acting Premier, Ms Grizelda Cjiekella, visited Northern Cape High School, Diamantveld Primary School as well as Tsirileco High School to assess their readiness for the 2013 academic year and give support where it is needed.

In welcoming back the learners, Ms Cjiekella highlighted the importance of education. She also expressed her delight at the fact that amidst the challenges that 2012 posed especially in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District; the class of 2012 did her proud because as a Province we had the most improved results in the country.

Ms Cjiekella also made an appeal to learners that they should realise that they have a duty to their parents, educators and the community but mainly towards themselves because without education you cannot achieve anything in life. Learners need to rise to the occasion by working with Government and show respect and be disciplined towards their educators.

Two of the former learners of Northern Cape High also formed part of the opening assembly. Zani Kotze who was the 12th best performing learner in the Province said to the learners that in order to reap such results you must work hard every day. Seshupo Sebusi who was also one of the top achievers told learners that you must have a well-managed plan and make the best out of your matric year because it is one of the best years of your life. At all the three schools that Ms Cjiekella visited learning and teaching was taking place.

This year not too many challenges were experienced with late admissions but parents are once more encouraged to heed to the deadlines set by the Department of Education. The Department has done everything in its power and should be applauded because by last year all text books were distributed. Only the text books received from National were distributed this year and one text book that needed a reprint will be distributed shortly although alternative arrangements have been made.

Ms Cjiekella is positive that this year the department will build and improve on the successes reaped during last year’s academic year with the assistance of the learners, parents and educators.
