Opening of new doctors' room at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic hospital

On Monday, 19 January 2010, Gauteng Health and Social Development MEC Qedani Mahlangu officially opened the new doctors’ room at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg hospital.

The building of this room was part of “Making a Difference” campaign which started by Carte Blanche in 2008 and has been joined by other companies since then.

The aim of the campaign is to highlight the plight of welfare organisations which focus on the needs of children as well as highlighting the needs of Paediatric Surgery units in five major hospitals around the country including Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg, Chris Hani Baragwanath as well as Steve Biko Pretoria Academic hospitals.

The resources that are required at these hospitals vary from ventilators to paediatric Intensive Care unit (ICU) beds. In addition to the doctors’ room, the campaign has improved the hospital’s paediatric ICU and high care.

Appreciating the efforts, MEC Mahlangu said these companies are adding value to public health system.

“These donations will ensure that public hospitals go back to their former glory,” she said.
