Members of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) delegation to the Western Cape kicked off the NCOP Provincial Week today with the official opening of a multi-million rand Khayelitsha Hospital.
Opening the new state-of-the-art facility which cost R530 million Western Cape Premier, Ms Helen Zille said Khayelitsha now had one of the best hospitals in Africa. She said this was one of the provincial government’s efforts to bring quality services to the people.
The Provincial Week is one of the key mechanisms established by the NCOP to achieve its mandate of representing the country's provinces in the national sphere. This year, the NCOP is focusing on assessing what municipalities have done and are doing to achieve clean audit outcomes by 2014.
The NCOP delegation met with the Overberg District Municipality earlier today. Delegation leader, Mr Michael de Villiers said Operation Clean Audit 2014 (an initiative of the national government) was not a mission impossible. The Western Cape was in a good position to achieve this, Mr De Villiers added.
Tomorrow, members of the delegation will interact with the Swellendam and Cape Algulhas municipalities.
