Old age home employee to be sentenced for fraud

Duduzile Ellen Ndala, a former secretary of Katlehong Old Age Home, will be sentenced at the Alberton Magistrates Court tomorrow, Monday, 4 April 2011. This is after she pleaded guilty to payroll fraud and irregular disposal of government assets.

Ms Ndala confessed to theft in 2006 following an investigation carried out by the Department of Health and Social Development at the home. The investigation revealed irregularities, after which Ms Ndala signed an acknowledgement of debt and promised to pay back every cent. However, she disappeared. After almost three years on the run she was finally arrested.

To avoid such acts from occurring, and improve financial management, the department has introduced stringent cost containment measures.

“All those suspected of committing fraud will be investigated and if found guilty, cases will be sent for prosecution,” said MEC Ntombi Mekgwe.
