The NYDA continues Youth Service on Mandela Day

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) today celebrated Mandela Day 2014 by continuing with National Youth Service (NYS) programmes that in essence embody the Madiba spirit of Ubuntu.

"At the NYDA every day for us is Mandela day, through the many national youth service programmes we run across the country. Service is fast becoming an integral part of youth culture in South Africa and we salute all those young South Africans who contributed 67 minutes of their time on Mandela Day. Indeed, we are demonstrating that we are committed to the future of our country," says Yershen Pillay, NYDA Executive Chairperson who joined the NYDA youth service volunteers in handing over books, planting a vegetable garden and carrying out maintenance work at Kids Haven in Benoni, Ekhurhuleni.

The NYDA was involved in a range of impactful service interventions nationally including an outreach and information sharing visit to Bosasa Youth Development Centre in Mogale City, Krugersdorp by the NYDA Deputy Executive Chairperson, Kenny Morolong. Youth in conflict with the law at Bosasa Youth Development Centre were provided with NYDA product and services, career guidance and job preparedness information.

The overarching objective of Mandela Day is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better and in doing so build a global movement for good. “Take Action; Inspire Change; Make Every Day a Mandela Day.”
