NW MEC Mohono encourages innovation and collaboration to improve service delivery

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono has called for innovation from employees in both branches of her department and for them to go the extra mile to improve service delivery. Mohono made the call at a special gala dinner hosted for public service ambassadors who brought honour to the country, province and her department in Mahikeng on Tuesday evening

Operation Lemoga, the public education project team had obtained third position to earn a bronze award out of 65 entries in the category-Innovation in Empowerment of Government Systems during the prestigious 2010 All Africa Public Service Innovative Awards (AAPSIA) earlier in May this year.

MEC Mohono appealed to other programmes within her department to follow in the footsteps by Operation Lemoga.

“In the spirit of Batho Pele, the team innovated against all odds of bureaucratic red tape to emerge as the pride of the department, province and country. What began as small idea developed into a great idea that transformed the way the department responded to complaints from members of the public that were ordinarily dismissed,” Mohono commended

She added that the innovators thought out of the box and moved from the comfort of their offices to reach out to widows, pensioners and taxi drivers, farmers and other motorists across our province and wiped away many tears and brought joy to many broken spirits.

She said that units within the department need to a fresh look at things and start doing them with a revitalized energy putting more emphasis on collaborations in the spirit of working together we can do more and that Operation Lemoga should not be the only project that her department shares its best practice models with the public service in our province, country and continent.

The turn-around strategy reached and shared information with over 90 253 motor vehicle owners and contributed significantly towards reduction of the R340 million debt that had accumulated in unpaid license fees that had accrued to motorists.
