In an effort to accelerate service delivery, developers and contractors involved in housing delivery in the North West province are to sign new performance linked contracts that tie them to performance schedules. The announcement was made by MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Desbo Mohono during an intervention meeting held with Tlokwe Local Municipality to expedite housing delivery on Wednesday.
To fast track performance in the 4 900 houses under construction within the municipality, contracts of over R180,3 million are to be reviewed and decisive action to terminate underperforming contractors taken.
“Conflicts among contractors cannot hold delivery of housing to our people to ransom,” says MEC Mohono. The reviews are intended to intervene appropriately and timeously in order to minimise the phenomenon of “blocked projects.”
A joint task team between the provincial department and the municipality was established to investigate tranche payments made by the provincial department to the municipalitytowards housing delivery. The team is expected to report back in 14 days time.
