No wasteful year-end parties at taxpayers’ cost will be enjoyed by public servants in the North West Provincial Administration henceforth, the Provincial Executive Council (Exco) resolved as part of belt tightening measures reaffirmed at its last meeting for the year held on Wednesday in Taung.
The tough measures outlined by North West Premier Mme Thandi Modise at the conclusion of the meeting include:
- No purchase of new state vehicles for Members of the Executive Council (MECs) for the next six months.
- No overseas travel for MECs unless in exceptional circumstances
- One official mobile phone for MECs
- No unnecessary retreats
- No printing of T-shirts and glossy budget speeches
- Tight fleet management to ensure that state vehicles are not driven around after hours and during weekends.
“We all have to trim non-essentials in our expenditure and lead by example as touch economic conditions are forecasted ahead,” stressed Premier Modise.
Executive Mayors, Mayors and Municipal Mayors are expected to attend the North West Provincial Coordinating Council to be chaired by the Premier at Taung Sun today.
