NW Blitz nets 10 more for drunken driving

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono says that Zero tolerance road traffic law enforcement operations targeting drunken drivers are being phased in on an incremental basis and rolled out across the North West Province ahead of the festive season. This follows the arrest of 10 more motorists for drunken driving over the past weekend.

The motorists one of whom was five times over the permissible limit were arrested by members of the North West Road Traffic Management Unit based in the Bojanala Platinum District.

The latest arrests bring to 28 the number of motorists arrested for drunken driving along the Bakwena Platinum, around Brits, Hartbeespoort and Mooinooi in the past three weeks.

The arrested motorists were released on R1000 bail when they appeared in the Brits Magistrate Court on Monday and their cases postponed for trial in due course.

Operation Futha targeting drunken drivers is part of the National Rolling Enforcement Plan aimed at reducing road accidents and fatalities.
