Number One Taxi Driver Competition underway

The winners of Number One Taxi Driver Competition will each walk away with a Ses’ifikile Taxi and petrol worth R50, 000 this year.

This was announced during theory and practical testing session of the 2012 Brandhouse Number One Taxi Driver Campaign at Aliwal North on 15 March 2012. Thirty nine taxi drivers from around Joe Gqabi District took part in the competition on the day.

“This year, the competition will have three winners from different categories and in each category, the winner will walk away with a Ses’ifikile Taxi and petrol worth R50, 000,” Brandhouse Corporate Services Manager, Mgadi Sibane.

A delighted Mduduzi Kulani, from Steynberg, could not hold his excitement after hearing this: “I have to win this competition,” he said. Kulani started driving taxis in 2007 and is hoping to utilise the skills learnt during the competition into good use.

In welcoming the participants, MEC for the Department of Transport, Roads and Public Works Thandiswa Marawu said that this competition demonstrates how serious our government is about developing the Taxi industry. “We acknowledge the role played by the taxi industry in job creation and in the economy of the country said Marawu.

This competition is an initiative of Brandhouse in partnership with Road Traffic Management Cooperation, Toyota, Caltex and the Department of Transport in a bid to educate taxi drivers and other road users about road safety. It is intended to deliver responsible role models to the taxi industry, and these role models should embody:

  • The true values of responsible driving.
  • Great customer care driven from both the individual driver as well as the taxi owners.
