The NPA community television campaign

From 9 July 2013, the NPA television series “NPA FOR MY JUSTICE” will be broadcast on Tshwane Television on Tuesday at 20:30 and a repeat broadcast will be done on Sundays at 17:00.

The series forms part of Tshwane TV’s programme repertoire as it launches on DSTV Channel 262 on 9 July 2013. Apart from DSTV Channel 262, Tshwane TV is also accessible on TOP TV Channel 181. Terrestrially, it is available in Pretoria and surrounding areas, up to Polokwane and parts of Mpumalanga.

As part of government’s commitment to focus on community media to advance its developmental communication approach, the National Prosecuting Authority has created a television series together with Tshwane Television to be broadcast on Tshwane Television.

The series will explain the role of the NPA in society, and will profile the functioning of the NPA as an institution, with particular focus on people. The NPA plays a vital role in sustaining democracy and society. As “The People’s Lawyer” the NPA exists to be s sign of hope to every person that values the right of people to live in freedom and security.

‘NPA FOR MY JUSTICE” will profile the work of the NPA in a captivating way, and seeks to explain in some level of detail how the criminal justice system works and how courts function. The first episode will introduce the NPA in a documentary format, looking at the history of the NPA milestones, values, performance and service delivery.

The series will also sketch out the work of the prosecutors in courts, prosecutor’s conduct and responsibilities, and prosecutors as people. It will affirm the role of NPA in the justice system and in a country that supports human rights. This project is an extension of the educational programmes we have run successfully in the community radio and public broadcasting radio platforms in the past two years.

This is an exciting project for us, and we hope that it will touch members of the public in a way that will encourage them to engage with the work of the prosecutors from a better understanding of the criminal justice system. In this regard, we are hoping for constructive feedback from the viewers to ensure that the content responds appropriately to their information needs.

We will welcome comments and questions at: communitytvseries@npa.gov.za.
