Noth West MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements, Mr Collen Maine resigns

Collen Maine resigns – Acting MEC appointed

The MEC for provincial Department of Local Government and Human Settlements Mr Collen Maine has resigned. This was confirmed by Premier Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo during a media briefing that was held today in Mahikeng.

Mahumapelo told the media that Maine resigned following his election as the President of the ANC Youth League, and that his letter of voluntary exit from the government system has been accepted.

“We have therefore appointed MEC Wendy Nelson who is responsible for the department of Finance, Economy and Enterprise Development to act as the MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements until further notice”, said Premier Mahumapelo adding that this development does not imply that a cabinet reshuffle is on the cards.

“The decision to appoint MEC Nelson is based on the firm understanding that she has a major role to play in managing intervention measures for municipal finance systems; the work she has been performing well together with the outgoing MEC Maine”.

Premier Mahumapelo thanked Maine for his contribution towards improving the performances of various municipalities in the Province, and for ensuring that Human Settlements programmes are well implemented.

“We are also positive that MEC Nelson is well placed to continue shaping up our municipalities’ state of affairs, and that she will perform this added responsibility to her utmost ability”, stressed Premier Mahumapelo.
