Operations in the Northern Cape intensify on the eve of Christmas Eve
Northern Cape Provincial Traffics have zoomed-in on certain hotspots in the province to curb reckless driving and drunken driving on the roads.
So far, following intensified Traffic Law Enforcement Operations in Kimberley, one drunken driver has been arrested in the late afternoon while 105 cars were stopped two hours into the start of the afternoon operations.
16 summonses have been issued for various infringements such as driving without a driver’s licenses, driving without a taxi permit and unroadworthy vehicle while more statistics are trickling in as operations continue.
Some of the operations unfolded at the city’s busiest intersections - clamping down on recklessness on our roads while other operations unfold across the province.
Head of Department, Mr Steven Jonkers said today’s operation focused on the aspect of drunken driving.
“We focused on certain hotspots not only to enforce the law without fear or favour but to sensitive our road users to keep safe on the roads. It is important that people remember to always buckle up and not to drink and drive,” the Head of Department explained.
Jonkers said focus will remain on drunken driving as it poses a danger to the drunk driver and other road users.
He said Provincial Traffic Officers in the Province will continue with the zero tolerance to recklessness on our roads operations.
He added that staff members have also been roped in to intensify efforts of disseminating road safety messages with the Road Safety Education members.
The National Traffic Police formed part of the operations unfolding in the city.
