A lady driver aged 33 was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a fraudulent public transportation permit. The arrest of the woman in Delareyville in the North West province is part of an ongoing zero tolerance crackdown to prevent incidents and accidents involving public transport dubbed Operation Juggernaut.
It is alleged that the woman’s husband was driving a taxi with 13 passengers on Sunday when he was stopped by traffic officers from the North West Provincial Road Traffic Management Unit .The taxi was impounded after the driver failed to produce the permit. He committed to present it to authorities on Monday but only send his wife with to present the suspected fraudulent permit on Thursday.
A case of fraud was opened with the police and the woman was locked up behind bars. Police are with the assistance of the Provincial Road Traffic Management Unit investigating possibility of involvement of a fraud permit syndicate and are confident that more arrests will be made soon as the woman is said to be cooperative.
