North West MEC for Local Government and Traditional Affairs, China Dodovu has extended his message of congratulation to the newly appointed Chairperson of the National House of Traditional Leaders, Kgosi Phopolo Pontsho Maubane of Bakgatla ba Mochane in Maubanestad.
MEC Dodovu said the fact that Kgosi Maubane is from the North West Province is an indication that the province has a pool of proficient leaders who have a lot to offer to the rest of the country. “Our province is predominately rural and therefore has a significant number of communities that are under traditional leaders. We therefore can contribute meaningfully in dealing with the challenges facing institutions of traditional leadership”, said MEC Dodovu.
He said the provincial government is committed to prioritising the stabilisation of governance in traditional leadership areas. ‘We want to ensure that there is stability and collectivism in our traditional communities as well as resolve disputes which mostly arise as a result of land and mineral resources”, he mentioned.
Kgosi Maubane was elected in line with the National House of Traditional Leaders Act and will serve a five-year term. Other members from the North West Province are Kgosi Kgalalelo Sedumedi of Batlokwa and Kgosi Gustav Shole of Batloung.
