Clarity on the “Costs to renovate Mmabatho Stadium estimated at R5 billion” article.
The NW Provincial Treasury wishes to clarify the contents of the circulating article that talks to the estimated amount to renovate Mmabatho Stadium. The department wishes to emphasize the following:
- Nowhere in the Provincial Budget and the Appropriation Bill was it mentioned that the North West Provincial Government is going to spend R5 billion to renovate Mmabatho Stadium. This means the province did not set aside the mentioned amount for the project.
- What Mr Dantjie said to the journalist was, if the province would consider renovating both Mmabatho Stadium and Mmabatho Convention Centre, it would cost an estimated amount of R5bn for the two (2) projects.
- The amount in the headline of the article is blown out of proportion as it misleads readers into thinking that the Provincial Treasury is going to spend R5bn on renovating the stadium alone.
