North West Tourism welcomes newly appointed MEC Wendy Nelson

The North West Department of Tourism welcomes the newly appointed MEC Wendy Nelson. The MEC has now been appointed to the department following a cabinet reshuffle by Premier Job Mokgoro.

Speaking on behalf of the Tourism Department, the Acting Head of Department Mr Motsepe Moiloanyane says it is a great pleasure to accept MEC Wendy Nelson to the department.

“We welcome MEC Wendy Nelson’s appointment and, as a department, we are enthusiastic about the future because there is no doubt that the MEC is fit for this role, has integrity and is capable of leading the department in creating a dynamic, sustainable, diversified and vibrant  tourism sector in the North West Province.

“As we know she is the custodian of clean governance as shown by the audit outcomes of the department she was heading before. She has delivered on her mandate over the years and I hope that these good qualities will rub off into the department to ensure that at the end of the year we would have reached all our targets and aspirations.

“We commit to provide her with the necessary support in the execution of her duties to fulfil the mandate of the department and wish her all the best for the duration of her term”, added Moiloanyane.

Prior to joining the Tourism Department, Wendy Nelson served as MEC for Finance Economy and Enterprise Development (FEED) from May 2014 to December 2018. She served in the National Assembly during the period of 2009 and 2014 in the Cooperative Governance and Trafitional Affairs (COGTA) portfolio, where she served as the Whip for the Committee as well as the Governance cluster.

Nelson also has an extensive background in Local Government- having served as a Member of the Mayoral Committee from 2000- 2006 in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality and subsequently becoming the Speaker at the same district municipality between 2006 and 2009.
