Business owners welcome tourism venture by Government
Tourism product owners across the North West province agree with government’s call to integrate and coordinate programmes for the development and improvement of Tourism sector in the province. Owners further agreed that through the hosting of major events and marketing of art and cultural products, the sector will assist in improving the economy of the province and further contribute in creating more jobs as part of the apex priorities set by government.
The sentiments were echoed by more than 200 delegates, who attended the last of the four district tourism lekgotla that was held in Bojanala district, Rustenburg on Tuesday. The main objective of the four district Makgotla was to foster integrated tourism planning and development across all spheres of Government. The venture will in the final analysis ensure that Agriculture, Culture and Tourism become the biggest contributor in the economy of the province, as outlined by the Premier of the North West Supra Mahumapelo.
Addressing delegates during the Bojanala district Lekgotla, Tourism MEC Desbo Mohono reiterated the importance of working together with private business within the tourism sector. “We cannot do business with people that we are not familiar with or those that we are not sure we are on the same folio. Now the Department strategy requires us to establish while at the same time building good relations with our fellow private sector counter parts. We have realised that as government alone the task might be overwhelming to achieve.
Contrary to that, we believe it is not a daunting task but it requires us to work together in making sure that the Tourism sector becomes a golden goose within the province. We are also making it a point to ensure that we foster the integrated tourism around the province and inclusive in our strategy will be planning, growth, development and transformation,” concluded MEC Mohono.
The four tourism makgotla’s will be culminated by the provincial tourism lekgotla that will finally come up with resolutions further mapping the way forward in coming up with the provincial tourism strategy.
