The North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has terminated the employment contract of Ms Sophy Koikanyang with effect from Monday, 28 June 2021 following the outcome of the disciplinary processes. Ms Koikanyang has been working for the department as the Chief Financial Officer.
The disciplinary process came after identification of irregular awarding of the security tender and for processing a payment through a departmentally appointed implementing agent for the procurement of a building, which building was never transferred to the department.
The building was intended to serve to store produce from the Farmers in the Ramotshere Moiloa Local municipality in line with the marketing strategy as it was in the outskirts of town and closer to the buyers.
She was then suspended last year and charged with gross misconduct, gross dishonestly, fraud and gross financial misconduct. The disciplinary process was concluded on 25 June 2021 and recommendations were that she should be dismissed from the department.
The department welcomed the decision and will continue to cooperate with all parties in this matter.
