North West speedster granted free bail

The case against a man arrested for clocking 160 km/h on a 60km/h speeding zone was provisionally struck off the roll pending results of drunken driving blood samples and the suspect released on free bail in the Rustenburg magistrates Court in the North West Province on Wednesday.

Thirty-three year-old Tshidiso Monare was driving an Opel Astra sedan on the D108 Buffelspoort-Marikana road on Monday afternoon when he reportedly clocked the speed camera that was set up by members of the North West Provincial Road Traffic management Unit at 5h05.

The unlicensed Monare said to be a motor mechanic was taken for a blood sample extraction at Job Shimankana Tabane Provincial Hospital in Rustenburg after a breathalyser test confirmed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Monare was locked up at the Marikana Police Station before his court appearance to answer to charges of speeding, drunken driving and driving a motor vehicle without a driver license.

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono has vowed that provincial road traffic management authorities would sustain zero tolerance enforcement operations against lawlessness in order to reduce road accidents on public roads.
