North West service delivery programme Setsokotsane changes people's lives

Bokone Bophirima's accelerated service delivery programme Setsokotsane has made noticeable difference in fast-tracking the delivery of government services to communities in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality.

Twenty-five year old Julia Kong of Kameel said she was very pleased that government was bringing the much needed services to people in far-flung areas such as Kameel as it is often difficult for them to travel to other areas to access the services.

Julia was in Kameel in Naledi Local Municipality when Setsokotsane was there on Thursday and followed it to Rekgaratlhile on Friday to finalise child support application for her 12 month old baby.

The Setsokotsane had mobilised key service delivery departments such as Health, Social Development, Labour, Health and South Africa Social Security Agency (SASSA), among others to provide essential services to communities there.

An array of services and crucial information were also provided by the Departments of Community Safety and Transport Management, Culture, Arts and Traditional Affairs, Tourism, Finance and other entities that are working with government. South African Police Service (SAPS) was also on the scene to assist with certification of documents, among others.

After rendering services in Gedeelspan, Kameel, Dithakwaneng, Broedersput and Rekgaratlhile this week, Setsokotsane is now headed for Greater Taung next week starting from Monday 6 July.

Setsokotsane coordinator Jimmy Mawelela said he was satisfied with the progress and the quality of services that government was providing through Setsokotsane. Mawelelwa also said that it was gratifying to see other stakeholders coming on board to work with government to speedily address the backlogs on service delivery issues and touching people’s lives.

Earlier in the week, Mercycon Construction Company has undertaken to make a contribution after following Setsokotsane development as it moved across the district municipality.

Tebogo Molamu and Rachel Molamu said they were very touched by a story that showed a destitute and homeless family of ten in Bona-Bona in Kagisano Molopo Local Municipality.

“We want to make a contribution by building a house for the family. We are looking at a house with three bedrooms and a kitchen and living room. We will also try to mobilise other businesses to come on board and work with our government as we are very impressed with its initiative to bring these kind of services to the people who need them most,” said Rachel Molamu the Managing Director of Mercycon.

Since the beginning of June, Setsokotsane has been providing the much-needed services in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District Municipality and has already reached a commendable number of wards in various local municipalities within the district.

So far, Setsokotsane has been able to take government services to communities in Bloemhof, Christiana, Boitumelong, Tosca, Tseoge, Bona Bona, Kudunkgwane, Morokweng, Morokwaneng, Tshaneng, Dipodi, Kgokgole, Kgokgojane, Pembroek, Newham, Southety, Garapipa, Dihutshane, Leeuw Aar, Maheng, Gamontshonyane, Kibitwe, Konke, Poutlane and Setabeng, among other areas.
