North West responds to Mmega Dikgang Publisher's comment on Premier Thandi Modise

Response to Mmega Dikgang Publisher's comment on Premier Modise

It is with a combination of laughter and disappointment that the Office of the Premier has read the publisher’s comment by Aaron Maleke in the 14 to 18 February 2014 edition of Mmega Dikgang.

Mr Maleke’s assertions in the editorial exposes a glaring lack of proper research, political objectivity and downright disrespect for the intelligence of his readership, and in so doing severely tarnishes the credibility of his publication which is a beneficiary of the Media Diversity Development Agency.

Firstly, the editorial is riddled with spelling and grammar mistakes which cast doubt about the author’s effort to really appreciate and value its readership.

Secondly, he asserts that “political moles have already started to gossip” about the fate of the Premier. What this demonstrates is that the author relies heavily on gossip mongering to formulate a political opinion. To this we would like to say that some of us like rumours because they are often revealing, are they not?

Further more, we are disappointed at the absence of solid research in what that is supposed to be an informative and educational article on the state of our province. For the record, it is in the public domain and a matter of public record that Premier Modise was appointed not in 2006 but in November 2010 .It is also common knowledge that the 2013 State of the Province (SOPA) was also not delivered at the North West University-Mahikeng Campus as Maleke claims, but in the North West Provincial Legislature Chamber. It is these kind of factual inaccuracies that make the editorial almost embarrassing to read!!!

Mr Maleke posits various theories as to what in his infinite wisdom constitute failures on the part of the Premier. These theories are at best spurious and at worst indicative of entrenched political conspiracies.

It is clear that the political archives he has consulted must have informed him to deliberately typecast the Premier and her administration unfavourably-his reference to two MEC’s surviving the chop after the elections testify to this. His propositions with regard to Premier Modise being lax on corruption, dishonouring commitments to Imbizos and the like, shows that his motives are indeed questionable.

Generally, the editorial has all the hallmarks of a hidden political agenda which seeks to serve the interests of forces who are hell-bent on perpetuating disunity and anarchy in the province.

Our advice to the learned gentleman would be for him to remain true to the ethos and ethics of journalism and in this way capture the attention of his readership.

Mr Maleke’s has been invited to the SOPA, which will outline the strides our province has made under the leadership of Premier Modise, to be delivered in the North West Provincial Legislature Chambers.
