North West Public Works and Roads opens road Z422 in the North West

MEC Molapisi applauds role of the Tribal Authority at official opening and hand over for phase 1 of upgraded road Z422 at Lokaleng, Mahikeng

MEC for Public Works and Roads, Gaoage Oageng Molapisi accompanied by the Executive Mayor of Mahikeng Local Municipality, Cllr Tshepiso Mphehlo and Head of Department (HOD), Mr Moss Kgantsi officially opened and handed over Road Z422 at Lokaleng. 

Constructed at a total value of R 123 175 287.20 (Vat Inc) over an 18 months period, the project was implemented through the Equitable Share. The completed Phase 1 (15km) from Albert Luthuli intersection through Lokaleng and Mogosane to Tlapeng villages is part of the 29.5 km long, low standard unpaved rural collector road surrounding rural areas with agricultural activities.

Speaking at the ceremony, MEC Molapisi  pointed out that “The 2023 October Transport Month (OTM) theme pointed to the necessity and urgency with which government is to proceed in the implementation of road infrastructure. Through this year's campaign ; we as government, seek to prioritise building Infrastructure that stimulates social emancipation and an economy that works creating jobs and saving lives and livelihoods.” 

A total of R 20 840 176.07 Vat Inc. was spent on subcontracting opportunities , 49 beneficiaries were recorded accounting for 32% of the contract value spent on subcontractors.

According to Executive Mayor of Mahikeng Local Municipality , Cllr Tshepiso Mphehlo , “The notable investment in roads infrastructure in and around the Mahikeng Local Municipality is an indicator that the Department of Public Public Works and Roads is committed to reposition and the rebuilding of Mahikeng”. 

"We as the tribal authority, thank the department for responding to the needs of the people. This road will bring about developments in our villages and ultimately attract investment” said Kgosi Phenyo Motshegare 

Kgosi Tlotlo Seru also delivered a message of appreciation at the ceremony. 

“We are thankful for sterling and exemplary leadership demonstrated by the Tribal Authority during this project. This project did not have unnecessary delays and was completed within a prescribed period. This must be motivation and lesson to other communities” concluded Molapisi.
