North West Public Safety traffic officers dies in Rustenburg hit and run road accident

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa is saddened by confirmed reports that a female traffic officer in her late 30s was killed in a road accident in Rustenburg on Wednesday evening.

It is alleged that the officer who was on patrol at around 20h30 when her Polo Classic subsidised vehicle was hit from the rear by a speeding Audi on a curve behind Fields College. She lost control of her vehicle, hit a tree and died on the spot.

The driver of the Audi allegedly sped away from the scene but police managed to trace and arrest the suspect. Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide, reckless and or negligent driving and hit and run against the suspect who is expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrates Court tomorrow.

MEC Yawa wishes to convey his condolences to the family of the officer and to her colleagues in the department, the Provincial Road Traffic Management Directorate and the Bojanala Platinum District.
