On Tuesday, 23 July, the Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Honourable Supra Mahumapelo congratulated Members of the North West Provincial Legislature (MPLs) who successfully completed an Advanced Certificate in Governance and Leadership with the University of the Witwatersrand during a ceremony held at Mmabatho Palms.
Six members qualified to study further for a diploma in Governance and Public Leadership and if successful will further their Masters degree that will also be accredited by the Wits University. The North West province made a commitment to relinquish the second position to conquer the first position from the Western Cape Legislature on the overall performance.
The Speaker was impressed with the dedication and effort made by those who made it even under their work commitment of programmes in the Legislature that have to be administered.
“We thank and congratulate every member who dedicated their energy and time even under difficult engagements of their work for performing so well in their studies, but more especially would like to also congratulate Honourable Nikiwe Num who made us proud by being amongst the top 5 best performers in the country,” said Hon. Mahumapelo
He mentioned that MPLs must use this knowledge and skills acquired for the advancement of the legislature’s mandate and anywhere they would be called to render service in our communities.
One of the guest speakers who was the motivational speaker at the event, Adv. Leslie Sedibe, Chief Executive Officer of Proudly South African also made input on the achievements of the MPLs and further encouraged them to pursue further without fear of failure.

The Speaker in his last words heartened MPLs and encouraged them to view challenges in a positive way as they continue with the third phase of the programme towards an Advanced Diploma in Governance and Leadership.
“Challenges are not stumbling blocks but necessary platforms or stepping blocks to success” said Hon. Mahumapelo.
