The North West Provincial Government wish to repudiate media reports that the safety and security of soccer loving community attending the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup is in danger.
The reports emanate from the side show fracas that took place outside the Ventersdorp Magistrate Courts this morning, in wherein black and white protesters song Die stem, South Africa's apartheid era anthem and Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika in a confrontational manner.
Our capable police personnel were able to avert any possible explosive situation inside and outside the Magisterial Courts. We also have confidence in the police to investigate and bring to book culprits who defaced 35 to 40 road signs along the N12 between Johannesburg and Klerksdorp.
The security arrangements in preparation for the FIFA 2010 Soccer world cup are solid. Our capable police force has demonstrated efficiency, agility and competency in previous big events: Rugby World Cup, World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), world cups on cricket, water sports.
The Premier of the North West province would like to inform all tourists and soccer loving people of the universe that North West province is very safe and enjoyable. The people are warm and welcoming, offering hospitality never seen under the African skies.
