North West Premier Thandi Modise commits to consultation on new development trajectory

A major leadership conference to prepare the North West province and communities for the 1st phase of the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP) and preparation for the 2014 - 2019 planning cycle is to be held towards the end of the year, Premier Thandi Modise declared today.

In tabling the Departmental Policy Statement and Budget for the Office of the Premier, Modise said that all stakeholders, civil society, religious organisations, business etc. will be invited to share perspectives on how the province should be taken on a new development trajectory.

The Premier said that province will finalise its provincialisation and localisation framework of targets in terms of the NDP during this financial year and will conduct workshops to ensure that key stakeholders are able to integrate their plans with the objectives of the NDP.

“NDP constitutes the new fundamental basis to reconstruct our society and improve the quality of services to the people. It is a strategic framework to build capacity in the state to address the triple challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment in South Africa in general and in our province in particular. With the NDP we intend to create an inclusive society, consolidate democracy and ensure sustainable development”

The Office of the Premier through the Provincial Planning Commission has been engaging in a process to align IDP’s and the departmental Strategic Plans and put guidelines on the alignment on Municipal IDP’s for the 2014-2019 planning cycle.

Modise reported that the Commission is engaged in extensive engagements with departments and other stakeholders to ensure that there is a comprehensive understanding of the salient features of the NDP.
