The North West Provincial Government has appointed a commissioner to coordinate planning systems and ensure implementation of outcomes based performance across spheres of government.
The appointment as announced by North West Premier, Thandi Modise in her State of the Province Address delivered on Friday is part of the process towards establishing a Provincial Planning Commission.
The commission is to be charged with ensuring that backlog in infrastructure development is addressed in a more coordinated manner. It will also ensure more structured and focused implementation of the Infrastructure Delivery Improvement Programme (IDP) by departments and municipalities in the province.
A monitoring and evaluation unit is to be established in the Office of the Premier to focus on evaluation of performance. The restructuring process will also include revival of the inter-governmental relations and provincial coordinating units.
