The hoisting of an Afrikaner Weerstandbeveging (AWB) flag at Ventersdorp Provincial hospital is a desperate act by misguided elements who seek to polarise the relationship between the North West Provincial Government and the Afrikaner farming community in the area and should be condemned by those committed to unity, reconciliation and nation building, North West Premier Mme Thandi Modise said on Friday.
“The provincial government will not be intimidated or distracted from working towards the vision of a non-racial, democratic and united society and providing quality health care for all citizens in the province,” said Premier Modise.
The flag was apparently hoisted in the early hours of the morning in anticipation of MEC Magome visit to the hospital on Friday morning. The hospital has been ranked 4th in cleanliness in the province and MEC Masike was visiting the hospital to congratulate and motivate the staff.
Premier Modise has called on police to investigate the circumstance surrounding the hoisting of the flag at a government institution where security is supposed to be deployed on a 24 hour basis.
