North West Premier condemns rape of minor

North West Premier Mme Thandi Modise has condemned in the strongest terms the reported rape of a 4-year-old girl from Tlhabane near Rustenburg and called for an indepth investigation that will ensure the speedy arrest of the callous perpetrator responsible for the ghastly act.

According to police, the girl’s mother had rushed the child to a doctor after noticing that something was wrong while bathing the child on Friday afternoon. A rape incident was confirmed after examination and a case reported.

The mother had collected the child from the creche earlier in the day.

“When the scourge of sexual offences against women reaches infants, toddlers and young girls, every parent who has a child should be worried that the scourge has reached unacceptable leve and proportion” said Premier Modise said in anger.

Modise reiterated the call she had made recently for the partnership between police, crime prevention structures, churches, faith-based organisations, women organisations, non-government organisations and other civil society organisations to be strengthened to combat the scourge of sexual offences against women and girl children.

She said that the spate of rape incidents that we have experienced in recent weeks particularly those involving victims that are known to perpetrators point to moral decay that needs urgent intervention before communities start taking the law into their own hands and called on real men to condemn and support the call to action to end this scourge.

The Premier appealed to women not to leave their girl children with strangers, visit taverns and other drinking places at night, walk alone at night, ask and or accept lifts from strangers.
