Interventions aimed at breaking impasses that have torn royal families and traditional councils apart, auditing of financial affairs of some traditional councils and appointment of rightful heirs to royal thrones are to be sped up, Premier North West Premier Mme Thandi Modise committed at the conclusion of a series of meetings held with traditional councils and interest groups on Thursday.
Premier Modise expressed confidence that an audit of the finances of the Bahurutshe Boo Manyane Traditional Affairs would clear allegations of financial irregularity and mismanagement leveled by Bahurutshe Boo Manyane Concerned Group against the Bahurutshe Boo Manyane Traditional Council.
The concerned group led by General Kwena Mangope and some members of the royal family alleged that mining proceeds paid by companies mining chrome in Masebudule village have not been accounted for nor benefitted the community over the past 57 years spanning the reign of Kgosi Lucas Mangope. They complained that unrehabilitated holes pose a threat to human beings and livestock.
On the request of Kgosi Mangope who met with the Premier in a separate delegation, the provincial government is to investigate invasion on grazing land in Witfontein and Boesmanskraal.
Agreement was reached with Bataung Boo Selale Ba Ga Sefanyetso Traditional Council from Moubana and Members of the Moiloa Royal family from Dinokana to verify family trees for processes towards the appointment of rightful heirs to be fast-tracked.
To ensure that there is stability and that services are not rendered with factional influences and or preferences, an administrator is to be appointed at the Bahurutshe Ba Ga Moiloa Traditional Council in Dinokana.
The delegation from Bakgatla Ba Kgafela Traditional Council led by Kgosi Nyalala Pilane pledged its partnership to support government in its development programme.
MEC for Local Government & Traditional Affairs, Paul Sebegoe, officials from his department, Chairperson of the Provincial House of Traditional Leadership, Kgosi Mabe and his Deputy, Kgosi Tshepo Mankuroane and Commissioner on Traditional Affairs, disputes and claims, Joe Mafereka were part of the Premier’s team that engaged with parties that had requested to meet with the Premier regarding conflicts within their respective traditional councils.
