The North West Planning Commission is to be strengthened with recruitment of additional part time commissioners, the Provincial Executive Council (Exco) resolved on Wednesday.
In terms of the resolution taken by Exco, the work of advisory bodies that were set up to advise the Premier on various issues are to be collapse into the Planning Commission.
The Commission was set up by Premier Mme Thandi Modise to integrate planning to address the underdevelopment challenges the province and to focus on:
- coordinating the province’s planning systems and ensuring that performance is guided towards the provincial goals
- helping in clearing the backlog in infrastructure development
- streamlining coordination and integration of infrastructure planning and implementation
- setting up a monitoring and evaluation unit in the premier’s office that will be charged with evaluation of performance of departments
