North West motorist arrested for speeding and drunken driving on N4

A 28 year old motorist was arrested for speeding and drunken drinking on the N4 Bakwena Platinum highway by North West Public Safety traffic officers on Saturday afternoon.

The motorist was stopped for speeding violation for clocking 107 kilometres per hour(km/h) on an 80 km/h speeding zone near Groot Maricho. The traffic officers had earlier received reports from other motorists that the said motorist who was driving a Corsa bakkie from Rustenburg to Zeerust, was driving recklessly on the road.

The motorist was slapped with further charges of driving without a licence was added after the motorist failed to produce a driving licence. He is expected to appear in the Groot Maricho court on Tuesday to answer to the three charges of drunken driving, speeding and driving without a licence.

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa commends the taxi driver who reported the motorist to the traffic officers after an alleged argument with him at a Swartruggens filling station.
