Corruption and poor performance will not be tolerated in the department, North West newly appointed MEC for Department of Social Development, Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Collen Maine said at the departmental first quarter performance review session held in Mahikeng on Tuesday.
“We must all intensify our efforts in general to achieve a clean audit at the end of the financial year while at the same time, delivering quality services to the people of the this province, Maine said, adding that mediocrity and sub-standard performance will not be tolerated in the department.”
He called on management to work together in harmony to achieve more than what has already been achieved in the previous financial years, putting the needs of young people on top of the department's developmental agenda.
MEC Maine also added that the department needs to intensify its efforts aimed at poverty eradication in the province through the War on Poverty programme, which is a Presidential Programme launched three years back by Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe in Greater Taung, which has been identified as one of the most impoverished areas in the country.
