North West MEC Mohono welcomes RAF assistance of 5 donkey cart road accident victims

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Desbo Mohono on
Friday welcomed commitment from the Road Accident Fund (RAF) that it will assist the Modukanele, Mache and Gaoaketse families towards the burial costs of five road
accident victims who died in donkey cart road accident this week.

Three family members Mathapelo Modukanele (5), Bafana Modukanele (6) Karabo
Modukanele and Kebitsamang Gaoaketse (21) and Molebatsi Mache (42) died in a tragic
road accident after the donkey cart they were riding on was hit from behind by an Opel Kadet on the N18 Stella-Vryburg road at around 8:20pm on Sunday night.

Goitsemodimo Moduakanele (29), who was the driver of the donkey cart that allegedly had no reflectors lost his fiancé, Gaoketse in the accident. He survived the accident with head injuries. “Though the RAF’s assistance is limited to caskets, mortuary fees for storage of the bodies and the undertaker’s funeral services, without it, the families wouldn’t been in a position to bury their beloved ones. We call on the business sector to assist the families with catering for the funerals ” says MEC Mohono.

The funerals of the five road accident victims were deferred to next weekend  as their families are destitute and could not afford their burial costs. They are to be buried on Saturday, 25 December 2010 at Ramabega and Motsitlane villages near Madibogo.
