North West MEC Mohono expresses condolences to the Blacks

North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Desbo Mohono wishes to express her condolences to documentary cameraman Daniel Black’s family on the loss of their four-year old son.

MEC Mohono described the nightmare through which the family went through after their chalet at resort near Bronkhorstfontein in Groot Marico was flooded and three of the five family members swept away by the river at midnight on Wednesday as tragic. “In their sadness may the Blacks they find solace in the knowledge that we share their sad loss and grief. For all its worth, we appreciate the recovery of their son’s body by the rescue services,”said MEC Mohono.

Black’s wife and their 18 year old child reportedly managed to escape the flood waters pouring into the chalet after the door was opened by climbing onto furnisher. According to police, Black held on to his four-year-old boy as he and his 12 year old son clung to trees to prevent being swept away.

The father and his small son allegedly became separated at noon on Thursday. Rescue services found Black and his older son holding on to trees in the river.
