The North West Department of Human Settlements has adopted a housing delivery turnaround plan that will see it spend R1, 3 billion on housing delivery .Over 22000 are target for construction in the next six months in line with the plan dubbed “Thuntsha Lerole-Kick the dust” North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono, said in Mahikeng on Wednesday.
In announcing the plan to accelerate housing delivery, MEC Mohono said the support of municipalities and contractors in the implementation of the plan are critical hence, her department will be engaging municipalities on its rollout.
The MEC says that the ambitious, but practical plan developed after an intense housing delivery two-day review Lekgotla held with stakeholders earlier this month will require a change of organisational culture to improve turnaround time.
In order for the department to achieve its revised annual target from 13 800 to the increased over 22 000 housing units, delivery targets for appointed contractors are to be reviewed for them to deliver between 150-200 housing units a month.
To ensure delivery on the set targets, random inspections, fourthly reviews and monthly assessments will be conducted.
“While business unusual will be order of the day henceforth, there’ll be no compromise on quality,” undertook the MEC Mohono.
