Department aims at turning around the state of housing delivery in the province

The MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima, Galaletsang Gaolaolwe wants to deal with non-performing housing developers, once and for all.

On Tuesday, she visited a number of housing projects in Mmasutlhe, Totonyane and Itsoseng in Ngaka Modiri Molema district and interacted with housing beneficiaries in order to assess their level of satisfaction.

MEC Gaolaolwe also engaged with ward councilors, community liaison officers and contractors in order to find solutions to housing challenges experienced in different housing projects in order to accelerate service delivery in the province.

The visit was also intended to strengthen and monitor all housing projects in order to enable the department to intervene appropriately and timeously. “For the department to achieve housing delivery targets we need committed man and woman in construction who will deliver in the best interest of our communities out there, speaking on how she intends on turning around the situation”, said MEC Gaolaolwe.

The one-on-one sessions with developers was informed by a number of challenges experienced in the process of reducing housing backlog and incomplete projects across the province She warned developers against poor performance and shoddy work. ’’We will undoubtedly take against developers who do not finish their projects on time or do shoddy work’’, she said.
