Housing officials get capacitated on rental and social housing policy
The Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima yesterday held a two day workshop in Klerksdorp on rental and social housing for local municipalities.
The workshop was conducted in partnership with the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA), was intended to capacitate housing officials in various municipalities to be able to implement the social and rental housing policy.
The mandate of the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA) is to invest in social housing and be able to regulate the sector. The vision is affordable rental homes in integrated urban environments through sustainable institutions. Its mission was to regulate and invest to deliver affordable rental homes and renew communities.
Discussions were also on the terms of implementation of social housing projects and new build community residential units within the province. In the province, Flamwood social housing project in Matlosana local municipality was cited as an example of a successfully implemented social housing project.
