North West Local Government and Human Settlements provides residents of Boskuil with water and sanitation with project Setsokotsane

A whirlwind changes the lives benefits the residents of Boskuil near Wolmaranstad

As a whirlwind of change, Setsokotsane continues to engulf Bokone Bophirima, the residents of Boskuil and Oersonkraal near Wolmaranstad in Maquassi Hills local municipality will have their thirst quenched and also, have access to water borne sewerage as they get water and sanitation services brought closer to their doorsteps.

The Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima, has set aside at least R56 million for the construction of bulk internal water and sewer services for the two areas and the project will be completed within the next three years. The project which is to start in earnest soon, will see the construction of water storage tanks with an estimated storage capacity of between 200 and 850 kilolitres of water, as well as oxidations ponds for the two areas, respectively.

The communities of Boskuil and Oersonskraal have been using an elevated water tank and communal taps which could not adequately address their demand for water and they were also using Ventilated Improved Pit (VIP) toilets.

MEC Collen Maine said the project will benefit over 650 households staying in both Boskuil and Oersonskraal, creating jobs for 45 unskilled labourers. He appealed to the contractor to make use of local people, especially women and youth sub-contractors that will allow for skills transfer. Last year, the Department embarked on a project to build 914 housing units for both communities.
