Mahikeng water remains clean for drinking
North West Department of Local Government and Human Settlements once again wishes to reassure the residents of Mahikeng that the water in their municipality is not contaminated and it remains clean for drinking. This follows the recent results of the comprehensive tests, done on tap water in different parts of Mahikeng, which were released this week.
The results reflect that there are no traces of poison, Ecoli or any other contaminants in the water. The water samples were taken from taps at Mmabatho Water Plant, Corner Shop - Unit 14, UniWest Gate, Mmabatho Palms, Sasol Garage, Lokaleng Reservoir, Signal Hill, Mafikeng Water Plant, Cnr Molopo and Robinson street Mafikeng, Caltex and Road House Unit 7 and Unit 9 Clinic.
This reassurance by the department comes in the wake of rumours that have been spread in Mahikeng recently through social media networks that the water in Mahikeng, has allegedly been poisoned by those who are against the intervention by the provincial government in Ngaka Modiri Molema district municipality.
Since the rumour spread several test have been done on the water to ensure that the water is safe for consumption. However residents of Ngaka Modiri Molema are still advised to contact the Call Centre if they suspect any misdemeanour from pipelines and other water infrastructure as well as water outages or leakages. The contact number to the call centre which operates 24/7 is 018-388 3888.
