Speaker encourages young people to apply for Identity Documents and exercise their right to vote
The Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon. Supra Mahumapelo together with the Members of the Legislature urged the members of the public to apply for their Identity Documents at different Department of Home Affairs’ offices across the province.
This came after the Speaker and MPLs met the Department of Home Affairs to lodge applications for the new Smart Card Identity Document at the Klerksdorp Offices. “I want to encourage all South Africans to apply for their Identity Documents because if you do not have it, you cannot exercise your constitutional right to vote or access services that government provides for its citizens.
“People, especially the youth, must go and register to vote on the 8-9 February 2014 because they are the future of our country. The freedom that we have today did not come on a silver platter but it was fought for, therefore we must make sure that we preserve it,” said Hon. Mahumapelo.
Hon Mahumapelo also congratulated the Department of Home Affairs for the new state of the art technology to produce new Smart Card IDs that will prevent fraudulent activities like identity theft.
