North West learners debate road safety issues

Debating teams from high schools in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District are to participate in Road Safety Debate District eliminations to be hosted by the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison. The contest is scheduled to be held tomorrow, Wednesday, 25 May 2011 in Lichtenburg.

Provincial MEC for the department, Desbo Mohono says that the objectives of the annual road safety debate completion is to encourage learners to be aware of road safety issues, teach learners to take responsibility for road safety issues that affect their communities and develop and enhance learner’s presentation, communication and listening skills.

Bojanala, Dr Kenneth Kaunda and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati are engaged in sub-district eliminations that will culminate into district eliminations to be held on the 10 June 2011 (Bojanala) and 27 June 2011 (Dr Kenneth Kaunda and Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati Districts).The Provincial Road Safety Debate is scheduled to be held on the 24 June 2011 in Mahikeng.

The Road Safety Debate Programme is one of the flagship projects of the Road Traffic Management Corporation coordinated by the Road Safety Directorate of the Public Safety Branch of the department in partnership with the Department of Basic Education.
